Sam and Paul's Story
The Birth of Zander Abe Harte
I had a phone call from Sam on the afternoon of the 24th
September, letting me know her waters had broken. She was experiencing
a slight bit of period-type pain, but was doing just fine. I was due to
be going away for a family wedding on the weekend, and knew I would
be calling in my backup!
The next morning, I had a call from Paul letting me know they were
at the hospital. I got in touch with my backup doula, Vickie (who
had previously met with Sam), and asked her to go and be with them
as soon as she could.
As I wasn't at the birth, the following was created by using
information from Sam, Paul, and Vickie.
By the time Vickie got to the hospital, Sam's contractions had
stopped and she decided to go home shortly after.
Sam laboured well at home with the support of her family until
Vickie was called to be with them again in the mid-afternoon. Vickie
captured some beautiful moments where Sam and Paul's two children,
Riley and Giselle, lovingly massaged mum's back.
They decided to go to the hospital around 7:30pm and Sam continued
to labour quietly, choosing positions that were right for her. Paul
was a fabulous support, and Vickie commented on the connection
between the couple during labour.
A beautiful little boy, Zander Abe, was welcomed into the world at
8:58pm on Thursday 25th September 2008.

Congratulations, Sam and Paul, on the arrival of your little man. I'm so sad I missed it, but am ecstatic that everything went well and you experienced the kind of birth you were after! Congratulations also to Zander's loving siblings, Riley and Giselle.
Also, a special thankyou to Vickie for all the support you gave to Sam, Paul and their family! Much appreciation for helping make their experience such a positive one!
