Jennifer and Jason's Story
The Birth of Sarah Adeline Forest
I received a phone call from Jason at 6:00am on Sunday
letting me know that Jennifer's waters had broken at 11:30pm the
night before. They were at the hospital and wanted me to join them.
I arrived at the hospital at 7:30am. Jennifer was doing well, and
was even indulging in some last-minute knitting. There was some
concern about meconium in her waters, so Jennifer and Jason decided
to be induced.
Jennifer did extremely well, labouring with intense contractions
from midday until 9pm. Jason was a fabulous support, continually
voicing how proud he was of Jennifer and telling her she was doing
such a great job. However, Jennifer was very tired, having had very
little sleep the night before, and was experiencing alot of back
labour, which made it difficult to be lying in bed on the monitor.
At
9:30pm, Jennifer and Jason discussed their options. They had an
exhausted mum, a posterior baby that was clearly trying it's best to
turn (given the amount of pain Jennifer was experiencing in her
back!) and a situation where labouring in bed was taking it's toll.
By 10pm they decided that an epidural was the best way to go. The
epidural was administered by 10:30pm and Jennifer began to relax.
She got some sleep - finally!
By 2:30am, the epidural was beginning to wear off. After a bit of
doing her best to push, Jennifer decided she would like the epidural
"topped up" and some help to have her baby. (Being in a posterior
position to begin with, their baby at this point still needed to
rotate about 45 degrees before it could descend, so Jennifer was
more than likely right when she voiced that she felt her body wasn't
yet ready to push her baby out - a prime example of mother's
intuition!).
A beautiful little girl, Sarah Adeline, was welcomed into the world
at 7:05am on Monday 17th March 2008.
Congratulations, Jennifer and Jason, on the birth of your
gorgeous little cherub! Against all odds and a very long and
tiresome labour, you stuck together. You made decisions that were
right for you and were rewarded with the ultimate prize! Thankyou so
much for giving me the privilege of witnessing yet another miracle.
I am very proud of you both and have already seen that you are
fantastic parents! Congratulations again!
