Bec
& Andrew's Story
The Birth of Rachael Mary Widdows
I had a phone call from Bec at 1:15am, letting me know that
she had been contracting regularly since around 10pm. She was
needing to put the phone down for contractions, but was still
doing well enough to say that it wasn't that bad yet! Bec wasn't
sure she wanted to go to the hospital yet, so they organised Ella
(their gorgeous little toddler) to visit with friends.
I
got organised and called Bec and Andrew on the way. It was about
1:50am and they had decided to come into the hospital. They were on
their way and would arrive in about 40 mins.
On arrival, around 2:30am, Bec was using her stress balls and
breathing to get through contractions, and was doing so well to go
with her labouring body while sitting in the car! Her contractions
were so close that she had about 5 or 6 between the car and the
birthing suite.
Bec breathed and swayed so beautifully through contractions, using
rhythm (she's very musical!) and voice to help bring her baby down.
Andrew was such a fantastic support; his coaching was so positive
and helpful and Bec commented on this several times after the birth.
Bec
came into the birth room, stood by the bed and had several
contractions. She wasn't sure of what to do, but then let us know
she wanted to use the bathroom. While there, her waters broke and
the labour seemed to kick up a gear. This is when Bec started to
push, and not long afterwards (30 mins after arriving at the
hospital) she was holding their gorgeous bub!!
A beautiful little girl, Rachael Mary, was welcomed into the world at
3am on Tuesday 30th December 2008.
Congratulations, Bec and Andrew, on your gorgeous little "angel".
Bec, you were amazing - it takes a determined woman to handle labour
like you did, from the drive in the car to the no-break contractions
and whirlwind birth! Andrew, your coaching was fantastic; you knew
just what to say at the right time! Well done, and once again,
congratulations!!!
