Tivoli and Luke's Story
The
Birth of Imogen Eve Collits
I received a phone call from Tiv at 5:50am letting me know
that her waters had broken at 1:30am and that she was doing well at
home. She was due to be at the hospital at 7:30am and asked me to
come over.
I arrived at Tiv and Luke's place at 6:30am. There was a positive
energy in the room and Tiv was moving about, finishing packing her
things and having contractions in between. At 7am we left for the
hospital.
After arriving at the hospital, the midwife suggested that Tiv might
like to have an examination to find out how dilated her cervix was;
she told the nurse she was keen to know how far she'd come. The
examination revealed that Tiv was already 6cm dilated, which she was
very pleased with; we all told her how well she was doing!
At
9am, Tiv felt like she needed something to help her cope with the
contractions. We discussed her options and she opted for a nice warm
bath. Tiv commented after her first contraction in the bath how much
easier the discomfort was to deal with in the water. Shortly after,
she let us know that the contractions had taken a step up and were a
bit harder to get through. She decided to try some gas, which she
said did help a little.
Luke was fantastic, particularly during this part of Tiv's labour.
He stayed by her side and made sure she was comfortable. Tiv wanted
her environment to be quiet and calm; the lights were low, gentle
music was playing, aromatherapy oils were burning and Tiv breathed
through the contractions so calmly in the water.
It wasn't long before Tiv felt the urge to push, and shortly after
she was lifting her baby up onto her chest; what a lovely and calm
waterbirth.
A beautiful little girl, Imogen Eve, was welcomed into the world at
10:49am on Thursday 17th January 2008.
Congratulations, Tivoli and Luke, on the arrival of your
gorgeous little angel. Tiv, you trusted your body and the process of
birth and you "let it happen" so beautifully. Luke, you were a
fabulous support for Tiv - your words of encouragement and positive
touch helped Tiv so much. You were a fantastic team, you worked
together to achieve the birth you had planned for and I'm so proud
of you both!
