Emma's Story
The Birth of Eli James Maslin
Emma began experiencing pre-labour tightenings in the early
hours of Tuesday morning. We spoke briefly on the phone around
lunchtime that day and she was doing well. She was due at the
hospital in the afternoon to be induced.
After arriving at the hospital, Emma decided to wait and see where
labour took her naturally. She laboured through the night and
appeared to handle each contraction with ease. She walked and used
her heat packs for comfort. In the morning, she decided it was time
to go to the birthing suite.
At 9am, Emma decided to allow an artificial rupture of membranes to
help move things along. Emma stayed focussed and used breathing,
music and visualisation to guide her. She showered and swayed to
help her baby descend.
At 12 noon, Emma decided to allow a drip to speed up labour. By this
time she was very tired, but listened to her body and rested between
contractions.
At about 4:30pm, it appeared as though Emma had decided she had had
enough rest and wanted to have her baby soon. She worked very hard
and still seemed to get through the most intense contractions by
going deep within herself.
A beautiful little boy, Eli James, was welcomed into the world at
7:04pm on Wednesday 21st November 2007.
Congratulations, Emma, on your gorgeous little "cherub". You
truly listened to your body. You stuck to your guns on those things
that were most important to you and that helped make the birth of
your little Eli such a positive and empowering experience! Well
done!
