About Us

Hi there and welcome to Empowered for Birth Canberra Doula Service, from Jen and Beth.

Jen founded the support service because of a strong interest in babies, children and the growing family. Jen is passionate about positive pregnancy and empowering birth experiences and how these directly affect the way a mother feels about her child, how the child feels about himself and how this shapes family dynamics. Jen has a keen interest in midwifery and is currently in her second year of study to become a midwife. Jen is married to Dean, and they have 3 young children.

Beth came to the support service to fulfil a lifelong dream of supporting women becoming mothers. She is a nurse of 15 years with ample experience working with women and their babies and, keen to expand on this passion, became a doula. Beth has a keen interest in maternal-newborn care and is planning to specialise in Maternal and Child Health Nursing. Beth is married to Ben, and they have 3 teenage children.

We have both studied with Childbirth International, an organization that trains birth support workers in more than 35 countries worldwide. We keep up-to-date with all things pregnancy and birth as we support women becoming mothers through individual and collective study. We are members of trusted organisations such as Australian College of Midwives, Australian Society of Independent Midwives, Maternity Coalition, Birth International and Childbirth International. We also believe connecting regularly with other doulas and birth professionals brings much to the ways a doula provides support, and do so regularly with those working in and around Canberra.
